Approve Minutes of May 1, 2014
The commission approved the minutes of May 1, 2014.
New Business
Environmental News
Lauralyn shared news of the upcoming documentary, “Bag It – Is Your Life Too Plastic?” The Potapaug Audubon is hosting this event scheduled for 7pm on June 12 at the town hall.
Linda reported that she is working with First Selectwoman Reemsnyder on climate change workshops which are made possible due to a Nature Conservancy grant. The workshops will be available to the community and a fall date is being considered.
George updated members on the solar happenings in Old Lyme. John Forbis is heading this effort to increase solar in town both commercially and residentially. There will be a meeting on July 9 at 9 am at the town hall. An emergency power complex has been suggested.
Ongoing Business
Outreach
Maureen suggested the commission consider marching in the Memorial Day parade in 2015. Members discussed what they envision and what would be needed.
Lauralyn and George will be editing the pesticides brochure to keep information current.
Lauralyn will reach out to the local chapter of Holistic Moms at the LYSB.
Members discussed a new monthly agenda item for the commission - Cooperative
Efforts. This item will be on the agenda for the July meeting.
Lauralyn will order the Buzz Away towelettes and make them available in the town
hall along with information useful to residents.
Rogers Lake
Members questioned whether the list of questions for the lake committee had been
resubmitted. It will be looked into.
Linda commented that the barrier garden was looking great and the article in Events
will be out soon.
George reported that he is working with Jane Cable and the town sanitarian on the
watershed proposal.
